Week 5 - Game Ideas

This devlog post is a collection of prototype ideas I've come up with in regards to KIT207's Assignment 2.

Mirror Madness

Solve a whole bunch of puzzles, where the answer lies in the reflections on the walls (try to mimic what you see).

Target audience would be people who enjoy solving puzzles. I believe this game would successful as it would get people to think in a unique way where they are constantly having to reference to mirrored images they see.

A prototype goal for this game would involve building a simple puzzle where the answers lie in mirrors.

Boom Karts

Race around a track picking up items to destroy your opponents. Each lap completed repairs your kart slightly.

Target audience would be racing gamers, specifically those who enjoy racing games with items such as Mario Kart.  This game takes a unique spin on the genre by focusing on keeping your kart on the road and rather than finishing first, you want to be the last man standing.

A prototype goal for this game would be to develop a simple function race course with karts able to take damage.

Hide and Snap

The seeker is given photos of the camera view of hiders. The seeker most go and find where they are hiding based on the pictures you see of their location. But the hiders can also see where the seeker is, meaning the seeker must be swift in tracking down a hider, lest they flee before they are found.

Target audience would be party game enthusiasts. It takes a unique spin on "hide and seek" where hiders and seekers partially know each other's locations from the get go.

A prototype goal for this game would be to create a split screen camera view of players moving around to ensure the main function, especially as this would be LAN multiplayer (we do not have the resources for online).

Bug in the System (BITS)

You are rodent bug in a computer where the idiot user unwittingly downloaded you off the internet. You must sabotage key targets while avoiding being spotted by anti-virus softwares, as well as the user themself.

Target audience would be gamers who enjoy a bit of stealth and strategy. This game would have a whole heap of simple references of computers for the player to easily recognise.

A prototype goal of this game would be getting a player to path their way through checkpoints and avoiding simple moving dangers.

Stop that Speedrunner!

A speedrunner (AI) is attempting to get through the level as fast as possible. You need to use the tools at your disposal to slow them down (or better, prevent them) from reaching the goal. Be warned though, because if the speedrunner is killed, the level will reset and all your placements will automatically reset naturally. You won't be able to place anything until the speedrunner passes the obstacle that killed them.

Target audience would be gamers who enjoy puzzles and strategic thinking as they would need to get creative in slowing down the AI, especially since actions they have performed that stopped the AI will automatically repeat.

A prototype goal of this game would be to develop an AI that navigates its way to a goal and quickly recharts its path if an object impedes its original path.
